These days I am watching a lot of movies online.  I have discovered couple of great resources to discover and watch movies online. I go to IMDBs top 250 list and just browse through the descriptions and decide on one movie. Then go to one site and search for it and watch it. As simple as that. So whenever I feel bored, I am watching a movie. In this way I discovered some very good movies and some movies have touched me a lot and some of them have inspired me and some have haunted me (not literally but because of the emotions which they evoke). Today I have watched a particularly haunting and a dark movie that I am sure, I will give a break to this movie watching spree.

Without further ado, I present some of the best movies I have watched. I will start with some haunting movies to the heart warming movies.

Haunting Movies: 

Grave Of the Fireflies:This movie is a tragic tale of a young child Seita and his baby sister Setsuko during the time of second world war. Their father is in the navy and their mother is killed in a bomb raid on their place. It shows their struggles after losing their parents to live. The Setsuko is so sweet and you almost can't see her suffering and Seita's love for his sister is very touching. If you see this movie you will not want any other war for sure. The innocence and sweetness of the actors will haunt you always.

Revolutionary Road: This movie was recommended to me by my friend Gautam. It is the story of a young couple whose life seems fine from outside. They have a good house, the husband (DeCaprio) works in New York and the wife (Kate Winslet) stays at home with their two children. Winslet wanted to be an actor but gives it up. They feel something is missing in their life so they hatch up a plan to leave everything and snift to Paris. When everything seems ready for that, De Caprio takes a counter offer their manager makes when  he informs him that he is leaving. When  he tells this to Winslet, she is very unhappy and feels very bad. When De Caprio understands that Winslet is not happy, he rationalizes himself and says that Winslet doesn't love him or thier children. Out of guilt, Winslet tries to abort a child whom she is carrying, with crude instruments herself. That doesn't go well and she dies due to loss  of blood. The mesmerizing action of De caprio and Kate Winslet will leave you spell bound. The skeleton of the man, De Caprio  is left after Kate's death will haunt you and teach you not to take loved ones for granted. Thanks Gautam for a really must watch recommendation.

Heartwarming Movies

Its a Wonderful Life: This is the story of a man who dreams of travelling all over the world but has to settle in his town to serve the people in his town. The acting of James Stewart as the idealistic young man, Donna Reed as a supportive wife and a heartwarming story leave you asking for more and wishing that people were so good.

Mr Smith Goes to Washington: This is another story of idealistic James Stewart as a senator from a southern state, trying to fight against graft and corruption in government projects. The stubbornness of James even after it seems everything is lost leaves you wishing the same kind of people in our politics. It just shows the contrast with our current political conditions.

Good Will Hunting: I watched this movie after I saw a post on Reddit in the best of posts for 2010. Will Hunting, a mathematical prodigy takes up a janitorial job at MIT. A professor discovers his prowess and wants him to help him in research. As Will is difficult to work with, he takes the help of a psychologist to help him who teaches Will the valuable lesson that you can always criticize from the sidelines but life is not meant to be lived that way. It is meant to be lived and experienced.

Yes Man: In this movie, Jim Carrey's wife leaves him and he becomes a 'No Man' literally which means he is closed to all opportunities. One day, when he doesn't get the promotion he deserves he goes to a seminar upon the force of his friend and is challenged to say yes to every opportunity he gets. His life soon changes and lot of good things like unexpected promotion, a new girlfriend comes into his life. But he gets into problems because of saying yes to everything which is soon resolved when he realizes that, the condition was just to get him opened up and as he is more open now, he can say yes to whatever he really wants. Really a good watch.

How to train your dragon: This story tells us about a village on a hill which has vikings and dragons and there is always a fight between them. Ages have gone by with the vikings fighting the dragons and dragons fighting them. A young guy who is sidelined as he is deemed too weak to fight by his father, secretly shoots a dragon and injures it. He goes after it and finds that it is scared. He helps heal its injury and becomes friends with it and names it Toothless. His father enrolls him in a dragon fighting camp. With the understanding he gets of dragons playing with Toothless, he wins the competition held after the training camp and is given the opportunity to kill a dragon. But he refuses to kill it, wanting to show to the people that dragons only attack for defense. But the villagers refuse to listen and attack the dragon which retaliates and tries to till the boy. Toothless comes to his defense but is captured by the villagers. The boy tries to explain to the villagers that there is a nest of the dragons and if they don't bring food the dragons themselves will be killed by a giant dragon. The villagers use Toothless to find the dragon nest and destroy it. But the giant dragon attacks them but the day is saved when toothless and the remaining dragons which the villagers have caught help them win over the giant dragon with the help of the boy. The story shows how difficult it is to convince others against their beliefs and how you should stick to your belief till others see the light.

Music Post - Maro Charitra

The audio of the new movie is not released yet. But I think the music is poised to be a chartbuster.

This is Produced by Dil Raju as the remake to the yesteryears classic film Maro Charithra starring Kamal Hassan starring Varun Sandesh of happy days and Kotha Bangaru lokam fame. The music is scored by Mickey J Meyer who incidentally scored music for the above films of Varun Sandesh and gave roaring hits.

The reason for me feeling so hyped is this trailer of Maro Charitra with superb music. Listen to it.

Avakai Biryani Audio Review

Just listened to songs of Avakai Biryani, a new film produced by Shekar Kammula, directed by Anish Kurvilla. Music is by Manikanth Kadri, a name I have not heard before.. It stars newcomers named Kamal Kamaraju and Bindu Madhavi..

The first song is Adigadigo is nice melodius and calm number and good to listen to.. It is sung by Karthick.. will grow on you as you listen to it more times...

Next one is fast number called Chindesi Chinna Pedda... Has mass beats.. Has lot of excitement... I think it is a good dance number in the film.. It is sung by Ranjith, Rajesh and Tippu

Next song is Maamidi Kommaku, a fast melody sung by the music director and Saindhavi, is quite good but I think the picturization has to add to the song.

Fourth song is Nannu choopagala Addam sung by Karthick and Swetha is a melodius duet and is good and may be become the top song..

Next song is Veerudena sung by Shreya Goshal and Karthick is again a melodius song.. Lyrics are good in this song..

I couldnt hear the other song Nadiche Edu adugulu sung by Naresh Iyer but think it is good..

On the whole there are good melodius songs and might grow on us the more we hear.. The songs Nannu choopagala Addam and Adigadigo are the top songs of the Album for me..

Desamuduru...Puri Jagannath...

He has done it again.. Normal story... villians kills heroines parents, occupy their house and take their money and try to marry the heroine to their son...A faithful servant helps her escape...And chance takes her to Kulu Manali and she joins a community of sanyasins and stays there....

While helping heroine escape, the servant is helped by the hero, who beats up the goons badly...They want to kill him... Hero a MAA Tv reporter is pressed by his parents to escape to somewhere.. He goes to Himalayas.. meets heroine.. makes her fall in love...and gets ready to take her back to Hyderabad.. In the meantime the villians discover the whereabouts of heroine and capture her and brings her back to hyderabad.. Hero meets the servant, knows about the whole pitiable story and rescues her...Thats the plot...A very ordinary plot...

But the taking is excellent...First half is excellent with the beautiful Himalayan surroundings, glamourous heroine...Second half is equally exciting with the fights and chases....

The comedy track of Ali is very hilarious.. His troubles start after a kidnap and how he ends up in the Himalayas is very interesting...Three songs are good... The mass song should have been more catchy.. Puri Jagannath has once again proved that he can make even a very normal story look very interesting with his taking.. A very good movie once again after Pokiri...


The sideline is that the hugely successful Pokiri was not able to generate interest in the Tamil audience.. I expected that because it was hit because of the punch dialogues and Puri's taking as the story was quite ordinary one...

Guru...

I watched guru yesterday... I was expecting it to be better than Yuva which had disappointed me with an abrupt climax...

The story is about a villager, Gurukanth Desai, who first goes to turkey, sees success there and then comes to India to start his own "biznaz" here. For sufficient capital, he marries his friends sister, Aishwarya for dowry with which he starts his business in Mumbai. Bureaucracy prevents him from setting his shop.. which gurukanth with the help of a paper run by Mithun, successfully overcome to set his shop. From there how Guru takes the business from a small company to biggest company in India is worth watching. The twists are good.

Finally Mithun and his star reporter, madhavan successfully expose his shady deals, how he bribed his way through the government, how he evaded paying taxes and excise frauds. He is put in jail and he has paralysis suddenly. Still the court scene of his trial is very well taken.

Everyone has acted very well. Music is good. Barso re, Tere bina.. are superb.

People may feel that the entertainment value is less, there are very little jokes and fights..But it is a very good movie to watch..

The taking is also excellelent. The song runs in the background with the story like hollywood movie.. Excellent Class Movie.. worth watching for the actors.. Screenplay should have been better...

Movie Experience

I was very bored by yesterday evening after talking wishing everyone a happy new year and catching up on the phone. I wanted to go to a movie. But there were very few telugu movies which were declared hit which I would have directly gone. Missing them I had to decide which movie to go. My brother said he was not interested in coming to a movie I thought I had to go without a movie when suddenly a friend of my cousin came to our house and asked us to come to a movie. I had the jagapathi babu starrer "Pellaina Kottalo" in my mind. But as people were more interested in going to Annavaram and due to lack of company I also accepted to come to annavaram. I expected that I will get tickets easily because the movie was not a very big hit and people were calling it average at the best. But yesterday being The New Year day, everyone came to a movie and hence it was the black ticketers day out. The were hoarding the tickets very badly. But then the movie was released in four theateres in close proximity and I hoped to get tickets in atleast one of the four. So we drove to theater after theater in hope of tickets only to be disappointed after not getting tickets there. Finally they all agreed to watch Pellaina Kottalo which I initially had in mind. Eventhough I had to wait for my cousins friend outside the theater for first twenty minutes of the movie, I felt my money was well spent after seeing the movie.

It is a romantic movie about the first few months in the life a newly married couple. Jagapathi babu and priyamani have done a very good job. It is a very good break for priyamani. She is cute, modest in sarees very attractive. Madan's style of taking is also very good. He has put all the ingredients to attract the newly married couple and youth to the movie. The movie is about how a newly married couple who are misled by their elders go to the verge of being seperated, how they realise the mistake and enjoy their life together. The comedy track of sunil and venu madhav is good. The music should have been better. The photography is good. On the whole was a good movie to watch.
The best point is that today one of my friends who comes with me in my bus to office recollected his experience of watching annavaram. He said that it was old wine ( he didn't mean old is gold.. what he really meant was stale) in an old bottle. He said he came out of the movie half an hour before it completed. I chuckled saying I missed the movie ticket for good and enjoyed Pellaina kottalo.
