There are lot of exciting things happening around the world and this is my attempt to share what I feel will most likely be mainstream.
1. Siri: The virtual personal assistant. They have developed a iPhone app which is an assistant which is as close as you can get to real assistant. And the semantic web, which was being talked about with much promise is finally showing its utility. You can book restraunts, flight tickets, movie tickets concert tickets, call a taxi all with just voice commands. And whats more is that the assistant will listen to what you are saying and will learn about you with AI and recommend better things to you. And ofcourse, they are expanding into more and more domains. I think it is the future of communication and web experience.
2. Ted: I was introduced to Ted two years back where people come and give talks about lot of things in the world. It is all about ideas which can change the world. You can never under estimate what a stroke of inspiration can do to you. That is the importance of Ted. It invites speakers from all over the world who have great ideas and introduces them to WHAT IS POSSIBLE. I have already shared with you many talks in my blog about the speech of Shukla Bose a woman who is changing the world by teaching slum dwellers. There is a video of a poor Africa, who designed his own wind mill to generate power where there was none. There are many such stories in TED and I think it is making the world much much much better.
3. Facebook: Its not that Facebook has not already changed the world, but with their f8 announcement of a new open graph, they are about to take over the web. Every thing we do is going to be recorded (ofcourse, with our permission only) and it will form our social graph. Our likes and dislikes, our shopping habits, our reading habits everything will be recorded and made available to the world at large. These will be shared with your friends and with the world. What they will do with this data is unthinkable now, but will need only a few months before the applications start using this data to build applications which we never even imagined. Welcome to the next level of internet.

Imagine One Government For the Whole World.
Image via Wikipedia
I was listening to a Ted Talk by Gordon brown, the British Prime Minister where he explored the following questions in an interview to Chris AndersonCan the interests of an individual nation be reconciled with humanity's greater good? Can a patriotic, nationally elected politician really give people in other countries equal consideration?Gordon Brown argues that the current problems of Humanity cannot be solved by one country alone, take the problems of the world cannot be solved by any single country alone. For example, take the economic crisis or the problem of global warming. It requires co-ordinated effort from every country. This led me to think if a global government was possible. Currently there is UN which doesn't have the power to be a good center of the world power. But the more I thought about it, the more I thought it would be a wonderful concept. But it would be great. Imagine the world being a single country, where a poor state actually gets money from a rich state for its development. Doesn't it do wonders? Can it not reduce the economic inequalities from the world. Yes, Yes you might be thinking it is just wishful thinking but just thinking its possible, I am sure that would bring lasting world peace. Ofcourse lot has to be done for the world to reach there though. The recent credit crisis of Greece is a stark example of how a country with a weaker currency comes into the big league. Ofcourse, even if it happens it should be mostly like the federation of states than a centralist country like India. Only that way would there be a chance of that union to stick together. There would be no aggression of state over the other - o.k not completely but they would be solved without resorting to arms. Ofcourse, we are long way from there, but I feel that would be the most stable way for the whole world.

Educating one child at a time.
One of my friend was discussing with me about a leader who is viewed as the man of the masses. While people lionise him as a great leader who changed the face of A.P with many new water projects, insurance for the poor and free power and other doles. And now the new Chief minister has no option but to revert back all of those schemes, owing to the dire situation of finances in the state but still the old leader is one who is thought of a being a great leader. This is all ignorance of what happened really.India spends large part of its GDP for education of its people but the results are poor. Atanu forcefully argues that the government of India has a vested interest in keeping all the people uneducated. Thats why I feel that education is a must for a change of the future of India. And hence education is one topic which is close to me in relation to development of India and of every person.
With all the negative news around, listening to one Ted talk has made me feel hopeful.
It was the talk of Shukla Bose, the founder of Parikrma Humanity Foundation in Ted. She says how they have started a school for children of slumdwellers. They teach them from KG till PUC, so that they can build the future of each child without caring about the numbers. They will give them meals three times, they will help if there are any problems in the family of the student. If all that is not enough, they teach these people in English medium in ICSE syllabus, the best syllabus in India. What made me feel so happy was that the children speaking English so fluently better than what I could speak at that time. It gives me so much hope that if the mode successfully replicated can do a lot to improve education in India.
Go watch the video here
They teach arts, music and sports too. There is a report done by Neilsen saying that the students have done a lot better compared to normal students in other government schools.
Their model is end to end education with emphasis on circle of life, education, healthcare, family care and nutrition. Not only regular teachers, but professors and other countries and universities like Stanford also give guest lectures here. Due to this the students grow in confidence that they are no way underprivileged compared to students in other schools. Also their activities are supported by many Corporates but I am sure, they could use your donations. To teach their method to other schools, they have started an Education Transformation Center. I wish them all the best and just imagine if there are more schools like this all over the country. If you are interested in contributing to a better India, surely this would be a great avenue.
Head over here to contribute. Parikrma has made India a lot better by educating just 'one child at a time.'
This is another step in the direction where real leaders will be hailed and people who earn hundreds of crores illegally and splash a crore on various populist schemes will be rightly nailed. Long way to go but a step in the right direction... Long live parikrma

Welcome to Spring
Nature presents itself in myriad colors to welcome a colorful spring after a harsh winter
Two planes crisscross each other in the sky and create a big X in the sky
Count the number of colors in the picture ;)
One of the most lovely pics
Aren't they lovely?
A red 'fan' against the sky
A welcome of 'peace' flowers
Another of my favorite
That's a lovely one for those who are crazy about pink...
The white with green makes a lovely combination
A darker version.. equally beautiful
This one's good.
Bloody beautiful..
